Golden Eagles Clinch Four-Set Victory Over Lees-McRae Bobcats

Banner Elk, N.C.- The University of Charleston volleyball team adds another win to their win column, as they defeat Lees-McRae College 3-1 to improve to 6-2 on the season.

The Basics:

Location: Banner Elk, NC

Score: 3-1 (25-22 UC; 25-15 UC; 25-23 LMC; 25-21 UC)

Records: UC: 6-2; LMC 3-4

How it Happened:

The Golden Eagles started off slow in set one with the Bobcats jumping to an early 5-2 lead, but UC fought their way back to knot it up at six on a service ace by Patrycja Majos, attack errors by LMC and kills by Pia Selke and Sage Bearnson. From there, a close matchup followed, as both teams traded sideouts until Charleston pulled ahead 25-22 to grab the first set of the game. 

Set two was a smoother ride for the Golden Eagles, as they secured the first two points on a Bobcat attack error and another Majos service ace. Charleston led the entire way with kills from Emma Shepherd, Mai-Lani Hernandez,Reagan McLean, Bearnson and Majos. UC won the frame 25-15.

Charleston fell to Lees-McRae 25-23 in set three, which forced another set. The fourth set was also back-and-forth, but a five point scoring run put the Golden Eagles ahead 18-13. UC held the lead to secure the 25-21 win over LMC to conclude the game. Offensively, Shepherd led Charleston with 18 kills and two service aces, while Janna Morrissey led the defense with 13 digs.

Charleston hits the road on September 15 to compete in the Walk On's University of West Florida Invitational. The matchup begins at 11:30am at the UWF Field House.
