Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Defeated by Lewis and Flagler

Pensacola, Fla.—On Saturday, University of Charleston Women's Volleyball fell in straight sets to Lewis University (25-10, 25-19, 25-15) and Flagler College (25-17, 25-15, 25-22). 

The Basics:

Location: Pensacola, FL

Score: Game One- 3-0 LU (25-10, 25-19, 25-15), Game Two- 3-0 FC (25-17, 25-15, 25-22)

Records: UC (7-5), Flagler (2-9), Lewis (8-4)

How it Happened:

The Golden Eagles were overpowered by the Flyers in the first game of the day, as Lewis jumped to an early 8-1 lead in set one on kills and UC attack errors. UC trailed the rest of the way, and Lewis secured the first set victory 25-10. 

In the second frame, the Flyers scored the first three points, but the Golden Eagles knotted it up at four and pulled ahead on a five point service run by freshman Chloe Fortner. The Flyers came back to tie it at nine though, and eventually took the lead and held it to win set two 25-19. 

The final set of the game started off strong for Charleston, as the Golden Eagles pulled ahead 4-2 on kills by Emma Shepherd, Patrycja Majos, Pia Selke and Mai-Lani Hernandez. Both teams traded sideouts until Lewis took the lead and held the Golden Eagles to just 15 points to win the last set 25-15.

Flagler also came out on top in the second game of the day for Charleston. The first set was back-and-forth until the Saints took the lead 4-3 and never gave it back. Flagler took set one 25-17. 

Charleston snagged the first three points in set two on a kill by Selke and a service and attack error by Flagler, but the Saints fought back to even the score at 11. The Saints then went on a nine point service run to pull ahead 17-11 and eventually win it 25-15.

The final set was a close matchup with Flagler only winning by three points. The Saints took a quick 6-3 lead, but the Golden Eagles came from behind to knot the game at 11 on service aces by Suzan Agterberg, Riley Hoff and Shepherd and kills by Abby Avila, Shepherd, Hernandez, Majos and Selke. The set was back-and-forth until Flagler squeezed by and won the set 25-22.

On Friday, September 22, the Golden Eagles will host West Liberty University for the first conference matchup of the season.
