Charleston, W.Va—University of Charleston Women's Volleyball (8-6, 0-1 MEC) fell to West Liberty (11-4, 1-0 MEC) in five sets on Friday, but bounced back to defeat Catawba College (3-6, 1-4 SAC) in straight sets on Saturday.

Game One:
On Friday, the Golden Eagles won the first frame 25-17, but the Hilltoppers came from behind and took the lead on a 25-21 second set victory and a 25-14 third set victory. However, Charleston would go on to force a fifth set, as they defeated West Liberty 25-21 in the fourth frame. The Golden Eagles fought hard, but fell 18-16 in the final set to give the Hilltoppers the victory.
UC's offensive attack was led by junior Pia Selke who had a total of 16 kills on the day, while senior Sage Bearnson pitched in 12 and collected a team high of five aces. Defensively, Chloe Fortner paced the Golden Eagles with 17 digs, which is a career high for the freshman. Bearnson was also strong defensively, as she followed closely behind Fortner with 15 digs of her own and two blocks.
Game Two:
Charleston defeated Catawba in three on Saturday to close out the weekend. The Indians captured the first four points of the game, but the Golden Eagles evened the score out at five on errors by the Indians and a service ace by Selke. From there, both teams traded side outs, until UC pulled ahead to win set one 25-23.
In set two, the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on a kill by Riley Hoff, a service ace by Selke and Indian attack errors. Catawba went on to knot the score at seven to make it a a close matchup until UC squeezed by and won the second frame 25-20.
To close out the weekend, the Golden Eagles captured the third set 25-19 to win them the game. Like the first and second frame, Charleston and Catawba went back-and-forth until Selke went on a four point service run to put UC ahead 23-18. UC concluded the set on a kill by Bearnson.
Riley Hoff and Sage Bearnson led the Golden Eagles' offense with Hoff collecting 13 kills and Bearnson collecting 12.
