CHARLESTON, W.Va.- University of Charleston's Women's Volleyball downed Concord University in straight sets on Friday night in a Mountain East Conference matchup to improve to 2-1 in conference play.

How it Happened:
Juniors Emma Shepherd and Pia Selke led the Golden Eagle offense to a straight set victory over the Mountain Lions with Shepherd pounding in 12 kills and Selke pounding in 11. The defense was led by Chloe Fortner with 12 digs.Â
Concord jumped to an early 8-2 lead in set one, but the Golden Eagles fought back to tie it at nine with kills by Bearnson, an ace by Suzan Agterberg and Mountain Lion attack and service errors. Both teams traded side outs until Charleston held Concord to 17 points, as they pulled ahead 25-17 on service aces by Bearnson and Shepherd and kills by Reagan McLean, Riley Hoff Mai-Lani Hernandez, Bearnson and Shepherd.
Set two was an even closer matchup, but Charleston came out on top 25-21. The set was back-and-forth, but Bearnson put the Golden Eagles ahead 12-8 on a 6-point service run. Charleston managed to hold the lead until the very end to give Charleston a 2-0 advantage going into the third set.
The final frame of the game was won by Charleston 25-19. Like the first two sets, Concord and Charleston traded side outs until UC jolted to a 15-10 lead on a service ace by Shepherd and kills by Shepherd, Hoff and Selke.Â

Currently, Charleston is participating in the King University Tri-Match in Bristol, Tenn. From there, they will travel to Elkins, West Virginia on October 3 to take on conference foe Davis & Elkins College at 7PM.
