Charleston, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles round out opening weekend with a sweep over the Bobcats of Lees McRae College to improve to 2-0 on the season.

How it Happened:
Despite the cold temperatures outside on Sunday afternoon, the Golden Eagles came out hot in the first set against the Bobcats of Lees McRae College. After conceding the first two points of the match on errors, the Golden Eagles did not let the Bobcats score consecutive points for the remainder of the set which Charleston comfortably took by a score of 25-8. Charleston had ten kills in the set, with Garret Schnitker leading the way with five, and the Bobcats tallied eleven errors to propel Charleston to a set victory.
The second set was even matched, Charleston with a slight advantage at 15-12 over the Bobcats. Lees McRae then won the next two points bringing the match back within one until Charleston went on a 10-1 scoring run powered by eight consecutive points, eventually closing out the set 25-15. Charleston had fourteen kills in twenty-four attempts, hitting .375% in the set.
The first several points of set three were back and forth, but Charleston took their first noticeable lead after a four-point run highlighted by three consecutive kills to lead 10-5. The Bobcats went on to take the next two points, but Charleston quickly responded with a five-point run to bring the lead to 15-7. Both teams traded kills back and forth, UC up 20-12 and Coach Reynolds bringing in several substitutes. The teams traded the next several points allowing Charleston to reach that magic number of twenty-five to close out the set and the match. The final blow came from Jake Couzens who bounced a ball to send the Bobcats packing.
Ten Golden Eagles had kills in the three set match for a total of thirty-nine kills and a hitting percentage of .406.
