Charleston, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles down the Lions of Emmanuel University Friday evening for third sweep of the 2024 season.

How it Happened:
The opening set of the Friday evening match was back and forth with both teams trading kills and service errors. It seemed as though the set would be even keeled for its entirety, but the Golden Eagles broke things open at 11-11. Charleston went on an eight-point run behind the serve of Paul Stommel who collected three aces in a row. With a 19-12 lead, the Golden Eagles went on to trade points once again with the Lions, but eventually went on to take the set 25-16.  Charleston had a .522 hitting percentage in the set collecting fifteen kills.
 
The second set started like the first with both teams trading side outs and while still struggling to serve. At 12-11 with Charleston leading, the Golden Eagles began to pull away from the Lions, going on two and three point runs until eventually closing out the set at 25-17. Charleston was 11-19 with a hitting percentage of .526%.
 
In the third set, Charleston jumped out to a 5-2 lead over the Lions before committing several errors to allow the Lions to tie it at 6-6. The teams went point for point until the Golden Eagles were able to go on a three-point run for a 17-13 lead. Charleston then went on a four-point run to jump out ahead 22-15. Emmanuel went on to score the next two points to cut the deficit, but Charleston closed out the set 25-19 to complete the sweep over Emmanuel University.
 
Jesse Delancy led the offense with 11 kills on 15 attempts for a .733 hitting percentage. With the win, Charleston improves to 3-0 on the season and 9-0 in sets played.
