LAKEWOOD, N.J.— University of Charleston Men's Basketball (8-2, 5-1 MEC) starts the new year off on the right foot with a 76-60 victory over Georgian Court University (1-10, 0-2 CAACC) in the GCU Wellness Center.

How it Happened:
This match up was a low scoring affair, but the Georgian Court Lions started it off with a three-pointer, but a Keaton Turner layup and a jump shot by DeAirius Barker put the Golden Eagles ahead 4-3. The lead would swap back-and-forth until Charleston pulled out in front 11-10 on a layup by Obinna Ugwuakazi. The Golden Eagles led the rest of the way, featuring buckets by Ugwuakazi, Barker, Shunta Wilson, Dwaine Jones and Eddie Colbert III. The first half concluded with Charleston leading 33-25.
The momentum continued to swing in Charleston's favor, as Tyler Eberhart extended UC's lead to 35-25 on a layup to start the second half. Eventually, the Golden Eagles went on an 11 point run with Colbert III scoring nine of the points on a pair of jump shots, a layup and three free throws. Charleston closed out the game on a layup by CJ Meredith, securing the 76-60 victory over Georgian Court University.
Eddie Colbert III and Obinna Ugwuakazi led the Golden Eagles offense, as Colbert III scored 17 points with eight rebounds and four blocked shots, while Ugwuakazi scored 17 points, shooting 7-10 from the floor with seven rebounds and three steals. Dwaine Jones also played a key part in the win with 10 points scored and eight total assists.

Charleston will hit the road again on Wednesday, January 10 to face Salem University (3-8) at 7:30pm in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium in Salem, W.Va. The Golden Eagles defeated the Salem Tigers 78-63 earlier in the season.
