Charleston Sweeps Glenville State in Dominant Straight-Set Victory

Charleston, W.Va. — The University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team cruised to victory against the Glenville State Pioneers (3-12, 1-4 MEC), defeating them in straight sets, 25-9, 25-12, and 25-8, at the Wehrle Innovation Center on October 11, 2024.

How it Happened:
Charleston took control early, dominating the first set 25-9 with strong serving and aggressive attacks. In the second set, the Golden Eagles continued their momentum, winning 25-12 with consistent offense and key defensive plays. They closed out the match in the third set, soaring to a 25-8 victory, fueled by effective serving and solid blocking at the net. The Golden Eagles never let up, securing the straight-set win.

Pia Selke led the Golden Eagles' attack with seven kills and six service aces, hitting an impressive .462. Riley Hoff also contributed seven kills while Patrycja Majos added five, hitting .308 on the night. Emma Shepherd was key on both offense and defense, posting nine kills and five aces, while London Upchurch orchestrated the offense with 17 assists. Sophia Knowles played a crucial role at the net, recording two solo blocks to help shut down Glenville's offense.

Charleston improves to 13-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Mountain East Conference.

Up Next:
Tomorrow, the Golden Eagles will hit the road and travel to Salisbury, North Carolina to face Catawba College. The matchup will be played in the Abernethy Physical Education Center at 3:00pm.
