Charleston Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Weekend Matches Against Point Park and Salem

PITTSBURGH, Pa. & SALEM, W.Va. — The University of Charleston women's volleyball team (18-6, 7-2 MEC) extended their winning streak with a pair of victories over the weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated the Point Park University Pioneers (5-15, 3-6 MEC) on Friday in four sets before sweeping the Salem University Tigers (5-19) on Saturday in three straight sets.

Score: 3-1 win over PPU & 3-0 win over SU

Charleston opened the weekend on Friday with a 3-1 win (25-15, 26-24, 20-25, 25-15) over Point Park in Pittsburgh. Key contributions came from Pia Selke, who recorded 10 kills, and Kate Strong, who matched her with 10 kills on an efficient .412 hitting percentage. Emma Shepherd chipped in with eight kills and three blocks, helping the Golden Eagles secure the close second set, 26-24, and recover in the fourth set to clinch the match.

On Saturday, Charleston swept Salem in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-15) with a balanced performance. Selke led the charge again with eight kills, while Emma Antigua added seven. Shepherd also made a significant impact with eight kills, three blocks, and 10 digs. Setter Abby Avila contributed 13 assists, and Reagan McLean's .417 hitting percentage highlighted the team's offensive efficiency. The Golden Eagles controlled the pace throughout, never trailing in any set.

Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will return home to the Wehrle Innovation Center on Tuesday, October 29, for a 7pm matchup against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats (12-11, 2-7 MEC).
