Charleston won the initial tip and led off the scoring with a three, but the Mountain Lions answered right back and continued to do so for the entirety of the contest. The teams traded the lead ten times in the first half, Charleston taking the one-point advantage 46-45 as both teams headed to the locker rooms at the half time buzzer.
The second half was much of the same, the two squads trading the lead 24 times in the second half. Charleston shot slightly better at 53% compared to Concords 48%, but the Mountain Lions managed 47 points to Charlestons 46, leaving the teams tied at 92-92 as the final regulation buzzer sounded in the Wehrle Innovation Center, sending the teams to their first overtime period of the night.
The script did not sway in the first five- minute overtime period with both teams trading the lead four times each. With just fourteen seconds left on the clock the Mountain Lions held the two-point advantage, leaving Charleston the chance to run just one final play. The Golden Eagles put the ball in the hands of veteran point guard Dwaine Jones. Jones drove the lane looking for two, but the ball did not have enough as it spun off the rim, putting a glimmer of home in the eyes of the Mountain Lions. The clock was winding down, just a tenth of a second left on the clock and Charlestons Ayinde Taylor II tipped the ball into the basket as the buzzer sounded, sending the game into a second overtime period, the teams tied at 108-108.
In the second overtime, the Golden Eagles had the slight edge over the Mountain Lions and outlasted a battling Concord squad to seal their first Mountain East Conference victory of the season, winning 122-119.
Concords Kollin Tolbert had a notable performance, putting up 58 points for his team in his 43 minutes played.
