How it Happened
Charleston would put up a dominant performance in their first road game of the year. In just the first quarter, they would find nine goals from six different players and put 10-12 of their shots on frame. With goals coming from Slinkard, Lospitalier, Partridge, and Russano, Charleston would start the game with a 5-0 run within the opening seven minutes of play. The Golden Eagles would score four more in the quarter, with Gianni Blundell's at 56 seconds left to play in the first giving Charleston a 9-2 lead heading into the second period. CJ Cook's goal assisted by Hannah Calvert at the 6:26 mark of the second quarter would force a clock to run continuously on the scoreboard as Charleston had taken a 14-4 lead. Calvert would then score the final goal of the half to take the 15-4 advantage into the locker room.
Just nine seconds into the second half, Darby Stolz would continue the dominant play of Charleston with a goal to extend her squad's lead to 16-4. The Golden Eagles had a successful night obtaining the draw controls, out-earning Southern Wesleyan 21-11 in the center circle. This allowed for Charleston to find a continuous rhythm on offense and score more goals. Calvert would earn her hat trick just over a minute after Stolz's second goal of the game, which would be followed by Gianni Blundell's hat trick at the 8:15 mark in the same quarter. Cook's second goal of the game with time winding down in the third gave Charleston a 20-4 lead heading into the final period.
Despite the running clock, Charleston's ability to score on Monday night would not be stopped as they would go on to put four more goals on the board in the fourth quarter. Nicolette Lospitalier would find her fourth goal of the game with just under five minutes left to play. This would be the final shot to hit the back of the net for either side as Charleston would leave Childs Field with the 24-5 victory.
