Golden Eagles Sweep Saints of Thomas More on Friday Evening

Charleston, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles swept the Saints on Friday evening to improve to 6-1 on the season. All of Charleston's wins have been completed in straight set sweeps.  
 
The Basics:

How it Happened:
Charleston got things going early in the first set on Friday night by taking a quick 9-3 lead over Thomas More. Charleston continued to stay in control of the set, extending their lead to 19-10, capitalizing on several Saint errors. The Saints chipped away with a four-point run to bring the set to 21-16 UC, but the Golden Eagles took it home after a Garret Schnitker kill and an untimely Saint ball handling error. Set one went in favor of Charleston 25-18.
 
Charleston once again jumped out ahead in the second set, taking a 4-0 lead and then extending it to 8-2 with Garret Schnitker collecting 4 kills in that span. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 18-8, and from there traded several side outs with the Saints before closing out the set at 25-17. Charleston had 11 kills in the set with a .261 hitting percentage paired with 6 Saint hitting errors.
 
The first several points of set three were back and forth with teams trading points up until 8-7 UC leading. The Charleston service error would be the last point Thomas More would see for a while as the Golden Eagles went on a nine-point run to take the lead 17-7. With momentum on their side, Charleston went on to close out the set 25-13 with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .417%.
 
Garret Schnitker led the offense with 15 kills. Paul Stommel had three of Charleston's six aces in the match.
