Charleston, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles picked up their seventh win of the 2024 season with the sweep over the Marauders of Central State Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
Saturdays match began with both teams trading points back and forth until Charleston eventually broke the scoring open with a seven-point run to take the lead 19-9. From there, Charleston went on to take the set 25-13 with a .333 hitting percentage compared to the Marauders -.174%.
The second set went point for point, both teams keeping the match within a point until Charleston eventually took a four-point lead late in the set. A pair of Maruader errors along with a Evens Edouard kill combined allowed Charleston to take the 22-18 lead. Central State won the next point but Charleston collected the next three to close out the set 25-19, taking the 2-0 lead in the match. Charleston had a .476 hitting percentage on 13 kills.
The Golden Eagles were dominant in the third set, only allowing the Maruaders to score six points. While the first six points of the set were traded back and forth, Charleston broke the set wide open with a 14-1 run, taking the set lead 17-4. With their backs against the wall, Central State stopped the run with a kill, but Charleston responded with a seven-point run to bring the lead to 24-5. The Marauders scored their sixth and final point of the set after a Charleston error, but the Golden Eagles closed out the match with a Karl Klehm kill to end the set 25-6. Charlestons 11 kills with only one error combined for a .588 hitting percentage in the final set.
The Golden Eagles had eight aces and 32 kills in the match with 16 Charleston players seeing the court.
