Belmont, N.C. – The Golden Eagles defeated tournament host Belmont Abbey in a five set match.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started things off on the right foot, taking set one over Belmont Abbey 25-16. Charleston rallied behind a five-point run to jump ahead by six, 14-8. From there the Golden Eagles continued to extend their lead, and eventually taking the first set victory over Belmont. The Golden Eagles had 11 kills in the set compared to Belmont's five.
Set two was quite the opposite, Belmont jumping out to a lead over Charleston 16-10. With a six-point deficit, the Golden Eagles could not overcome the Belmont hitting percentage of .625%. Set three was close with the teams being tied at 13-13, but Belmont had the advantage as they won the next five points on consecutive Golden Eagle errors. From there the teams traded points but the Belmont advantage would stick, and they took set three 25-21.
The Golden Eagles had the advantage in the fourth set, jumping out 12-6. Charleston continued to propel themselves toward a fourth set victory with 17 kills in the set, the most by either team in a set for the entire match. Charleston would go on to force a fifth set winner take all with their 25-20 fourth set win.
Set five was back and forth but a mid-set five-point run game Charleston a three-point advantage, 11-8 over Belmont Abbey. The three-point advantage would be enough for Charleston to claim a fifth set victory 15-12, taking the match win for their ninth of the season.
Garret Schnitker led the offense with 20 of Charleston's 56 kills.
