West Liberty, W.Va. – Golden Eagles plate 34 runs in series sweep over the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. JD Armstrong had 10 RBIs on the day highlighted by two grand slams in game two.
GAME 1
The Basics:

Score: UC 12, WLU 2
Records: UC 13-4 (3-0 MEC), West Liberty 4-11 (1-2 MEC)
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing in game one after allowing the Hilltoppers to plate a run bottom of the first, but the Golden Eagles went on to take the lead in the top of the third and did not look back for the remainder of the day. A series of hits from McCallister, Chartier, and Finck along with some wild pitches allowed Charleston to score three runs in the inning. Chartier, Finck, and Rust all collecting an RBI in the inning, the Golden Eagles taking the 3-1 lead.
Charleston scored two more runs in the top of the fourth off two hits. JD Armstrong picked up his first RBI of the afternoon on a single up the middle that scored Eric Chartier and moved Finck to third. Finck scored on the next play before the inning would end, Charleston now leading 5-1.
The Hilltoppers plated one run in the bottom half of the inning, taking the score to 5-2 UC still leading. The Hilltoppers capitalized on two Charleston errors in the inning to cut their deficit.
Walks and wild pitches along with a two out Eric Chartier single allowed three more runs to score for Charleston in the top of the fifth. After being walked to start the inning, Carter Rust advanced home on a wild pitch for the first run of the inning. The next two runs came off Chartier's single, Cody Li and AJ Karosas coming home for the 8-2 lead.
Charleston plated one run in the sixth without a hit, walks coming back to haunt the Hilltoppers. The Golden Eagles then continued their scoring in the top of the seventh with three runs off two hits. With two runners on, Casey Finck tripled to right center, collecting two RBI's and putting himself on third for JD Armstrong. Armstrong proceeded to fly out to center field allowing Finck to score for Charleston's twelfth and final run of the game.
The Golden Eagles sat the Hilltoppers down in the bottom of the seventh, Charleston taking the game one victory 12-2.
GAME 2
The Basics:

Score: UC 22, WLU 11
Records: UC 14-4 (4-0 MEC), West Liberty 4-12 (1-3 MEC)
How it Happened:
Charleston was electric at the plate in game two of the day, plating 22 runs on 17 hits. The Golden Eagles had the lead from the jump and continued to extend their lead until the last inning. Eric Chartier got the scoring started for Charleston when he stole third and then advanced home on an errant throw by the catcher. Hector Carreon Herrera then collecting an RBI on a single and later in the inning scored on a balk. The Golden Eagles headed to the bottom of the inning with a 3-0 lead.
Charleston allowed a run to score in the bottom of the first off an error but responded in the top of the second with four more runs. Carreon Herrera picked up another RBI on hist second hit of the day and then Trace Hartman collected two RBIs of his own with a single that scored Carreon Herrera and JD Armstrong.
After a scoreless bottom of the second, Charleston came back in the top of the third and plated five more runs. The first run of the inning coming by way of error, but the scoring was not over yet for Charleston. The big blow came with the bases loaded when JD Armstrong blasted a homerun to left field for his second grand slam of the weekend. The four-run blast giving the Golden Eagles a 12-1 lead. West Liberty plated three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning off two hits and a Charleston error.
Charleston scored two more in the top of the fourth, Evan Ulrich doubling to left center to pick up an RBI and then stealing home later in the inning for the two Golden Eagle runs. The Hilltoppers plated a run in the bottom half of the inning, the score 14-5 heading to the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, Charleston scored three more runs, AJ Karosas collecting two RBIs on a double to right center and later in the inning scoring on a passed ball by the catcher. The Hilltoppers did some damage of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring six runs on three hits. West Liberty got things started with a two-run homer. The Golden Eagles proceeded to struggle on the mound allowing the next four runs to score by way of walk and passed ball.
Charleston scored one run the top of the sixth to bring the lead to 18-11. The run coming with a bases loaded single by a Trace Hartman, Eric Chartier coming home to score. The Hilltoppers were kept scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, the score remaining 18-11.
The Golden Eagles continued in their scoring ways in the top of the seventh. The final runs coming from none other than the hot hitting JD Armstrong. Armstrong who already had a grand slam in the game, blasted yet another bomb over the left field wall for his second grand slam of the game, his third of the weekend. The four-run shot giving Charleston the 22-11 lead which would go on to hold for the final score of the game.
