Charleston Makes it Two Consecutive Wins with 17-5 Victory over Malone

Canton, OH – Charleston would hit the road Tuesday afternoon to go toe-to-toe with the Pioneers of Malone University for their 8th matchup of the 2024 campaign. They looked to make it two consecutive wins after their road victory a few days prior over Thomas More in Kentucky.

Location: King Field

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles started off hot with two goals from transfer Nicolette Lospitalier and Tess Yuhas for the early 2-0 lead on the road. After Malone's first goal of the game from Maria Fusillo at the 6:47 mark, Charleston proceeded to dominate the remainder of the half with six unanswered goals. Darby Stolz scored two goals in the dying stages of the first quarter while Yuhas completed her hat trick midway through the second period. Firing of 20 shots in the first half, the Golden Eagles would limit the Pioneers to just seven shots on offense and allow just two goals. Madison Partridge would give Charleston the 10-2 lead heading into the locker room after completing her hat trick in the final minutes of the first half.

Charleston had forced 18 turnovers from the Pioneers up to this point in the game and out-earned Malone in the ground ball category 11-3. The visitors had drawn up quite the game plan in their short days of preparation. They would make a change at goalie as freshman Rachel Pongonis would stand between the pipes for the second half.

Partridge would find the first goal of the second half and pick up right where the Golden Eagles left off. The team would find three more goals to add onto their lead and force a continuous clock at King Field with the 14-2 advantage. The Pioneers would find three goals of their own in the second half, but they would be outscored by Charleston 7-3. The Golden Eagles would take the 17-5 victory in their first ever matchup with the Malone Pioneers.
