The Stage is Set for Charleston's 2024 Campaign

| By:
Charleston, W. Va – Following the greatest season in Charleston history, the Golden Eagles have released their upcoming schedule for the 2024 campaign. Charleston's last season featured multiple accomplishments, from winning the Mountain East Conference Title to finding their first ever playoff win over New Haven in the opening round of the NCAA Super Region One playoffs.

The Golden Eagles will have two out-of-conference matchups to begin the year with their first game on the road in Greenville, TN as they'll face the Tusculum Pioneers of the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers would go 6-5 overall and 6-2 in the SAC with highlight wins over #25 Mars Hill and Wingate in 2023. Charleston is 1-1 overall against the Pioneers with the last matchup back in 2010 when the Pioneers took the 24-10 victory at home.

Their second game of the year will feature PSAC opponent California (PA) as they come to the University of Charleston Stadium on September 7th. Their season started with high hopes after a 31-20 victory over the Kutztown Golden Bears, putting them in the conversation of Super Region One contention as they went through their season; however, in their final game of the season with East Stroudsburg, who was also fighting for their right to play post-season football, they would fall on the road 37-30 and end their year 7-3.

Quinn Sanders, entering his third season as head coach, now stands with a 16-7 overall record following the 12-game season from this past year. He'll return 20 total starters from his put-together roster.

Charleston's offense put up monstrous numbers this past season, averaging 44 points per game and rushing for 2,690 total yards. Chavon Wright, the 2023 Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Year, will enter his redshirt junior year for Charleston. The Pembroke Pines, FL native ran for 1,518 yards on 272 carries this past season, averaging 5.6 a carry and scoring 20 rushing touchdowns for the Golden Eagles. Quarterback Javonte Howard enters his final season for Charleston after throwing for 2,699 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air. He'll have reliable receivers in Yves Bosmans, Marquan Herron, and Thomas Ashworth back on the gridiron this season.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles will have Willie Floyd and Aden Miller, two powerful linebackers that led the way in 2023 combining for 145 total tackles, 12.5 TFLs and 5 sacks. The secondary will feature a hard-hitting Cashawn Beasley who finished the year with 38 solo tackles and 5 TFLs.

On special teams, sophomore kicker Levi Paxton and junior punter Hayden Pack return for Charleston. Paxton would handle the kickoff duties in his freshman year for the Golden Eagles, contributing six touchbacks and averaging 54.1 yards per kick. Pack averaged 32.2 yards per punt last season with a long of 49, downing opponents inside the 20-yard line eight times. The Golden Eagles will also return long snapper Jacob Dezern who started on the punt and field goal unit in 2023.

Times are yet to be announced for the upcoming schedule, but Charleston's first matchup of the season will be in Greenville, TN on August 31st when they take on the Tusculum Pioneers at Pioneer Field.
