Charleston Defeats West Virginia Wesleyan 16-7 on the Road

Buckhannon W. Va – Charleston hit the road this past Thursday to face the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan for an MEC lacrosse showdown. The Bobcats looked for their first conference win of the year while the Golden Eagles sought after their second conference win in a row.

The Basics
Location: Cebe Ross Field
Score: UC 16, WVWC 7
Records: UC 6-5 (2-0 MEC), WVWC 4-8 (0-3 MEC)

How It Happened
Charleston would score the opening three goals quickly from Nicolette Lospitalier, Madison Partridge, and Gianni Blundell to take the early 3-0 lead over the Bobcats. West Virginia Wesleyan would answer back with a goal of their own from Kaitlyn Canby, but the Golden Eagles had found their rhythm early and raised the Bobcats four more goals in the period. Charleston held the 7-2 lead heading into the second quarter of play. After nine total goals were scored in the first, there would just be three total goals in the second quarter as captain Alyssa Greaver and Partridge would find the two scores for the Golden Eagles. After a slow second quarter, Charleston would take a 9-3 lead into the locker room.

The Golden Eagles played well following the halftime break as the squad fired off three more goals as the visitors extended their lead to 12-3. The Bobcats would find two goals in the quarter, but they would be washed out by a pair of goals from Hayden Slinkard and Partridge to maintain their nine-goal lead. Partridge's first goal of the fourth quarter gave her team a double-digit lead, but Wesleyan wasn't done just yet. The Bobcats found two back-to-back goals to find any bit of momentum down big at home, but Charleston once again would wash the goals away with two of their own as they would hold on for the 16-7 lead on the road in Buckhannon, WV.
