The Basics
Location: Elliott Field
Score: UC 4, FSU 15
Records: UC 6-6 (2-1 MEC), FSU 7-5 (3-0 MEC)
How It Happened
The first quarter would feature a tremendous battle between the two sides at the Welch Athletic Complex. The Golden Eagles would strike first at the 8:48 mark of the opening quarter after Nicolette Lospitalier put her skates on and dodged her way through defenders, firing her shot into the corner for the opening goal. The Bobcats would take the following five minutes to score three unanswered goals and take the 3-1 lead. Charleston found the final goal scored in the quarter after a nice dish from Hayden Slinkard to Darby Stolz from behind the net to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, they would head into the second quarter without leading goal-scorer Madison Partridge after she received her second yellow card of the match with .9 seconds left on the clock.
It was all Frostburg State in the second period. The Bobcats, firing off three more goals in the quarter, would hold the Golden Eagles to zero shots, extending their lead to 6-2 heading into the halftime break. Keeping Charleston alive in the game was goalkeeper Megan Liston who had an incredible first half performance. The Sophomore put up nine saves on nearly 20 shots faced, allowing just six goals for the visitors.
Charleston found two goals to begin the third quarter from Tess Yuhas and Hayden Slinkard, but they were matched with Neila Haney and Camden Demaio's goals, disallowing for any momentum from the Golden Eagles. The two teams would head into the fourth quarter with Frostburg State leading 8-4. The Bobcats would put it on in the fourth, scoring seven more goals after Charleston had been worked all the way down to their last substitute on the bench when Jasmine James went down with a hard injury. When it was all said and done, Frostburg State would leave the Capital City with the 15-4 win.
