WEST CHESTER, Pa.—University of Charleston Women's Volleyball started their season off with two wins and two losses at the PSAC East Kickoff Tournament this past weekend. The Golden Eagles swept day one of the tournament with a four-set match victory over Jefferson and a straight set victory over West Chester but dropped a five-set match to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and lost in straight sets to Millersville on Saturday.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles dropped the first set of the tournament 25-21 to Jefferson, but they locked in and went on to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-22 and 25-23.
Riley Hoff led the team with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .448, while
Abby Avila led the team with 19 assists.
Game two was even better for Charleston, as they defeated tournament host West Chester in straight sets. They won 25-21, 29-27 and 25-15 for their second victory of the year. As a team, the Golden Eagles totaled 33 kills and 33 assists with Avila notching 21 of the assists.
Reagan McLean also posted an impressive hitting percentage of .875 with seven kills in the victory.
UC put up a valiant effort in game three of the tournament versus Pitt-Johnstown. Dropping the first two sets, the Golden Eagles came from behind to win set three 25-23 and set four 25-22 to force a fifth set. The Mountain Cats jumped to an early 7-2 lead before Charleston clawed their way back to tie the score at 9 on kills by
Pia Selke,
Kate Strong and
Emma Shepherd. The teams traded side outs before Pitt-Johnstown pulled ahead to win 15-10 and hand the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season. Avila and
London Upchurch led the team in assists with Avila tallying 26 and Upchurch tallying 21, while Selke and Shepherd led the team in kills with 15 each.
The Golden Eagles closed out the tournament with a straight set loss to Millersville. They dropped the first two sets 25-21 and the final set 25-18. Shepherd had 11 kills in the loss.
Up Next:
Charleston will host the UC Invitational this upcoming weekend from Friday, September 13 through Saturday, September 14. The Golden Eagles will take on Central State University at 1pm and Roberts Wesleyan University at 7pm on Friday to begin the tournament.
