Salem, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles get back in the win column with an MEC victory over Wheeling. Charleston was led by freshman Ja'Corey Lipkins who posted a career high 42 points in the contest.

How it Happened:
The entire contest between the Salem Tigers and the Charleston Golden Eagles was back and forth basketball. Both teams trading buckets back and forth and neither team gaining a commanding lead for the duration of the contest.
The first half of action saw Salem taking the slight advantage, ahead 40-37 as the buzzer sounded. Charleston shot 50% compared to Salem's 39%. The slight advantage for the Tigers was seen in their perfect free throw percentage, making 6-6 while Charleston struggled from the charity stripe, converting 3-7.
The second half was much of the same, both squads trading points and Salem taking a six-point advantage with just under 14 minutes of play left in the contest. The Golden Eagles clawed their way back, evening the score at the under ten media time out, 56-56. Charleston then went on a 10-3 run, taking the largest lead in the contest ahead, 66-59 with 7:28 left to play. The teams then traded several points and eventually Salem regained the lead, 75-74 with 2:10 left to play. The Golden Eagles were then fouled several times as the clock ran down, Charleston converting 6-6 free throws to eventually take the contest 80-75.
Ja'Corey Lipkins led the Golden Eagles with 16 points, followed by Dwaine Jones with 15. Obinna Ugwuakazi picked up ten boards in the contest as well.

The Golden Eagles will head to Buckhannon, WV on Wednesday evening for a Mountain East Conference contest with the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. Tipoff is slated for 7:30PM following the completion of the women's contest.
