Charleston Comes Up Short on the Road at UVA Wise 3–1

WISE, Va. — The University of Charleston fell on the road Saturday afternoon at the David J. Prior Convocation Center, dropping a 3–1 decision to UVA Wise. Set scores were 25–20, 16–25, 18–25, and 16–25

The Basics:
Location: David J. Prior Convocation Center
Score: 3–1 UVA Wise (20–25, 25–16, 25–18, 25–16)
Records: UC 9–9 (2–1 MEC), UVA Wise 8–7 (2–4 SAC)

How it Happened:
Charleston started strong, using a balanced attack to grab the opening set 25–20. Kills from Patrycja Majos and Giuliana Batista helped fuel an early 6–1 surge, and the Golden Eagles maintained control behind steady serving from Abby Avila to take the 1–0 match lead.

Momentum shifted quickly in the second. With UC trailing just 14–13, the Cavaliers closed on an 11–3 run powered by August Betz and Madilyn Pardue, flipping the frame 25–16.
The third set was tightly contested through 9–9 before UVA Wise strung together five unanswered points to create separation. The Golden Eagles couldn't recover, and the Cavaliers rode their efficiency to a 25–18 win.

UVA Wise controlled the fourth from the start, racing out to a 10–4 advantage and never letting UC back within striking distance. Behind a .350 hitting clip in the set, the Cavaliers closed out the match 25–16.

On offense, Charleston was paced by Patrycja Majos and Giuliana Batista who each recorded 10 kills, while Sophia Knowles added six. Abby Avila directed the attack with 22 assists to go along with two aces.

Defensively, libero Chloe Fortner anchored the back line with 19 digs, while Avila contributed eight and Matea Cunningham added six.
