The Basics:
Location: Wehlre Innovation Center
Score: UC 87, Elizabeth City State 69
Records: Charleston 3-2, Elizabeth City State 0-3
How it Happened:
UC controlled much of the opening half through its interior play and defensive energy. Thomas Hailey set the tone early with multiple finishes around the rim, while Trevor Barrett knocked down key shots to keep the Golden Eagles in front. A late burst from Ben Nicol, a three-pointer followed by a driving layup, helped Charleston take a 38–30 lead into halftime.
The Golden Eagles wasted no time extending that advantage after the break. Hailey opened the half with a layup and a dunk, and soon after, Jalen Rivens took over the game. Rivens erupted for a personal 8–0 run, including a deep three and multiple transition finishes, pushing the lead to double digits and igniting the UC crowd.\
From there, Charleston controlled the pace. Defensive pressure from Nicol, Barrett, and Braeden Chapman forced turnovers that led to easy baskets, while Hailey and Matthew Shelton delivered key blocks to protect the rim. Shelton's fastbreak dunk off a Rivens assist in the final minutes sealed the outcome as UC's depth closed out the win.
Ten Golden Eagles scored in the victory, highlighting the balance and tempo that carried UC to tie 87–69 result.
