How it Happened:
Charleston opened the game with energy, striking first when Thomas Hailey turned a Matthew Shelton steal into a three-point play. The Golden Eagles pushed the pace early, getting scoring contributions from Hailey, Matthew Shelton, Hamilton Campbell, and others as both teams traded baskets in an up-tempo start. UC's perimeter shooting kept the offense flowing—Campbell, Hailey, Jalen Rivens, and Eli Robertson all connected from deep as the Golden Eagles built a 40–34 lead late in the half.
Glenville State responded with a run fueled by outside shooting, reclaiming momentum in the final minutes before halftime. Shelton knocked down a timely three to tie the score at 46–46, but the Pioneers scored in the final minute to take a 48–46 lead into the break.
Charleston wasted no time regaining control. Shelton tied the game at the free-throw line to open the second half, and Ben Nicol followed with a transition three to put UC back in front. Moments later, Braden Chapman added another triple, setting the tone for a highly efficient offensive stretch.
Hailey sparked a surge midway through the half with a powerful transition dunk and a setup to Shelton for another three, giving UC a 59–54 edge. Glenville State briefly regained the lead, but Charleston answered out of the media timeout with key buckets from Trevor Barrett, Shelton, and Robertson—whose corner three pushed UC ahead 66–63.
The game remained tight entering the closing minutes until Charleston seized control late. With Glenville State leading 85–83, Chapman drilled a clutch wing three to put UC on top. Seconds later, he jumped a passing lane for a steal and scored in transition, stretching the lead to 88–85 and swinging momentum fully to the Golden Eagles.
Shelton then buried a deep three with under a minute remaining, pushing the lead to four. From there, Nicol calmly closed the game at the free-throw line, going 4-for-4 in the final moments to seal the 94–88 victory.
