Golden Eagles Collect First Victory of 2025 in Four Game Series with West Chester

Fairfax, Va. – The Golden Eagles went 1-3 on the weekend in a neutral cite series with West Chester. The Golden Eagles dropped the first game on Saturday but then responded with their first victory of the 2025 season in game two. Charleston then was defeated in the Sunday doubleheader to round out the weekend.
 
GAME 1
 
The Basics:
Location: Patriot Park
Score: UC 2, WCU 12
Records: Charleston 0-4 West Chester 1-0
 
How it Happened:
In the first game of the weekend, Charleston trailed early after giving up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Golden Eagles then got on the scorecard in the top of the second with an RBI single from Alec Mendoza, Charleston now trailing 3-1.
 
The Golden Eagles kept the Golden Rams scoreless in the bottom of the second, but in the bottom of the third, West Chester plated five runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Golden Rams then plated their ninth run on the bottom of the fourth before Charleston score their second run of the ball game on a Carter Rust single in the top of the fifth.
 
The Golden Rams plated their final three runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning on a homerun center field. West Chester going on to take the victory 12-2 in game one of the afternoon.
 
GAME 2
 
The Basics:
Location: Patriot Park
Score: UC 4, WCU 3
Records: Charleston 1-4 West Chester 1-1
 
How it Happened:
Charleston responded well in game two of the afternoon, scoring the first two runs of the ballgame in the top of the first inning off one hit and two errors. The Golden Rams then scored their first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning. After a one out single, three consecutive Charleston wild pitches allowed the runner to come all the way around and score, Charleston still holding the lead at 2-1.
 
The Golden Eagles lead off the second inning with a Tyler Parks double and then moved him over to third with a textbook sacrifice bunt. Now with a runner on third, Samuel Lemond grounded out to the right side allowing the runner to score, Charleston leading 3-1. Austin Perando then sat the Golden Rams down in order for a quick bottom half of the inning.
 
The next two innings were scoreless with Austin Perando facing the minimum six batters, ending the fourth with Charleston still leading. The Golden Eagles then tacked on their fourth run of the game as Lane Weismiller opened the fifth inning with a leadoff homerun to extend the Charleston lead 4-1. The Golden Rams then responded in the bottom half with two runs on one hit, a walk, a balk, and a Charleston error.
 
The Golden Eagles were able to hold their lead and close out the contest with a 4-3 victory, the first of the 2025 season.
 
GAME 3
 
The Basics:
Location: Patriot Park
Score: UC 2, WCU 9
Records: Charleston 1-5 West Chester 2-1
 
How it Happened:
Charleston started off Sunday play with a run in the bottom of the first on an Evan Ulrich sacrifice fly to right field to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0. The lead did not last long though as West Chester tied the game in the top of the second on two hits. West Chester then took the lead in the top of the third when they plated another run on two hits in the inning.
 
The Golden Rams then extended their lead in the fourth, this time plating two runs on two hits, now leading 4-2 over Charleston. In the fifth, West Chester plated their first run of the inning on a bases loaded hit by pitch, and then another four runs on a grand slam to take a commanding 9-1 lead as the teams headed to the bottom of the fifth.
 
Charleston plated a run in the bottom of the sixth on a no out, bases loaded Samuel Lemond single up the middle, cutting the lead to 9-2. Despite having the bases loaded, the Golden Eagles could not muster another run, collecting a strikeout for out number one and then ending the inning on a double play.
 
The game went on to finish with West Chester taking the victory 9-2 in game one of the double header.
 
GAME 4
 
The Basics:
Location: Patriot Park
Score: UC 2, WCU 10
Records: Charleston 1-6 West Chester 3-1
 
How it Happened:
Game number started out in favor of West Chester, taking a 2-0 lead in the second on a throwing error by Charleston. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the damage did not stop there. West Chester went on to plate eight more runs in the contest before the Golden Eagles found their first run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
The Golden Eagles plated two runs on two hits, but the deficit was too large to overcome, Charleston falling to West Chester 10-2 to end the Sunday doubleheader.
