How It Happened
Graduate student Willow Cooper wasted no time, scoring twice within the first two minutes of the game to give Charleston an early lead. Malone quickly responded with a goal, but UC answered back with a flurry of offense, finishing the first quarter with a commanding 7-2 lead. Junior Madison Partridge made history with a goal in the final minute of the quarter, becoming the University of Charleston's all-time leading scorer.
Despite Malone's resilient efforts in the second quarter, where they scored two quick goals to cut the lead to 7-4, Charleston maintained control. The two teams traded goals before UC exploded with a 5-0 run to close the half, taking a dominant 13-5 lead into the break.
Charleston didn't let up in the third quarter. The defense stood firm, allowing only one goal while the offense put up six more, extending the lead to 19-6 by the end of the period. The Golden Eagles finished strong in the fourth quarter, trading goals with Malone to secure the 21-9 win.
With the victory, Charleston improved to 5-1 on the season, highlighted by Partridge's impressive performance. She scored six goals in the game, further cementing her place in UC history as the program's all-time leading scorer with 137 career goals.
