Game Recap: Lacrosse |

Lacrosse dominates against D&E

Philippi, W.Va – The Golden Eagles opened up conference play with a 18-5 win over Davis & Elkins.

The Basics

  • Location: Multi-sport Performance Stadium
  • Final Score: Charleston 18, Davis & Elkins 5
  • Records: UC 7-1, D&E 3-6

How It Happened

As has been the case throughout the season, Charleston wasted no time in asserting control. Junior Madison Partridge got the scoring started on UC's third shot of the game, setting the tone for an explosive offensive outing. With just 1:20 remaining in the first quarter, graduate student Willow Cooper capitalized on a free-position shot to push the lead to 6-0. D&E managed to get on the board with a goal just before the quarter's end, making it 6-1.

After allowing another early goal to D&E at the start of the second quarter, Charleston regained its rhythm, continuing to roll offensively. Madison Partridge added another goal off an assist from Darby Stolz, and the Golden Eagles went into the halftime break with a commanding 10-2 lead.

The third quarter proved to be a more competitive frame, as D&E generated a few more opportunities, and Charleston struggled to maintain possession. However, UC's Hayden Slinkard found the back of the net twice during the period, helping to extend the lead to 15-5.

The final quarter was all Charleston. The Golden Eagles suffocated any attempt at a D&E comeback, allowing just two shots and no goals. Cooper added her fifth goal of the game, and UC sealed the win with three more goals, finishing the contest in dominant fashion.

Charleston improves to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while graduate student Willow Cooper put on a stellar performance, netting five goals.
