Charleston Baseball Drops a Pair of Games to Frostburg State

Frostburg, Md. – The Golden Eagles dropped a pair of games to the Frostburg State Bobcats on the road.
 
GAME 1
 
The Basics:
Location: Bob Wells Field
Score: UC 3, FSU 7
Records: Charleston 8-13 (3-2 MEC), Frostburg 11-6 (3-2 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
The Bobcats got ahead with three runs in the first to take the early lead in game one. Frostburg State held their lead until the third inning when Charleston plated their first run of the ballgame. The run came off one hit by Samuel Lemond who came around to score after reaching third on an error and then on a Damian Witty ground out.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats extended their lead with a four-run inning on three hits. After a quiet top of the fifth, Charleston's leadoff batter got on with a single to start to the sixth inning. The next hitter to the plate, Evan Ulrich, then hit a homerun to left field to cut the deficit, Charleston trailing 7-3. Bobcat pitching then sat the next three batters down in order, minimizing the damage.
 
Charleston could not overcome the difference, falling in game one to Frostburg 7-3.
 
GAME 2
 
The Basics:
Location: Bob Wells Field
Score: UC 8, FSU 11
Records: Charleston 8-14 (3-3 MEC), Frostburg 12-6 (4-2 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
Game two began with Charleston taking a commanding 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The runs coming off six hits, two Bobcat errors, and a hit batter. Despite the lead, Charleston allowed the Bobcats to get right back into the game, Frostburg scoring five runs off four hits in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 6-5, Charleston leading.
 
Frostburg then sat Charleston down in order in the top of the second, heading back to bat quickly. The leadoff hitter for Frostburg found his way on base with a bunt single. The next hitter flew out to center, but the third batter to the plate was walked, and then next was hit, loading the bases for the Bobcats with just one out. Charleston was forced to make an early pitching change and Tanner Evans induced a foul popout to first for the second out of the inning. The next hitter was walked though, allowing the Bobcats to tie the game at 6-6 before a strikeout ended the inning.
 
Another quick inning for Charleston at the plate sent the Bobcats back to bat in the bottom of the third where they plated their seventh run of the game off two hits and a UC error.
 
The fourth inning was quick, both teams sending four hitters to the plate but neither side producing any runs.
 
In the top of the fifth, Charleston's Alec Mendoza found his way aboard with a one out single. Mendoza then advance to second on a wild pitch before Trent Dosenbach homered to right field to regain the lead for the Golden Eagles, 8-7.
 
The Bobcats then took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning, matching Charleston with a two-run homerun of their own, Bobcats leading 9-8. Frostburg tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, the first coming from a leadoff solo homerun. The next run came off a passed ball, Frostburg ahead 11-8. Charleston found a two out hit in the top of the seventh but could not push across any runs, falling to the Bobcats 11-8 to end the day.
