Golden Eagles Split Four Game Away Series with Davis & Elkins

Elkins, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles split a Mountain East Conference away series with the home Davis & Elkins Senators. Charleston lost the first game both days but bounced back in games two to split the series 2-2.   
 
GAME 1
 
The Basics:
Location: Harpertown Field
Score: UC 1, D&E 3
Records: Charleston 14-19 (9-6 MEC), Daivs & Elkins 5-26 (4-11 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing in the bottom of third after Davis & Elkins scored their first run of the game on an RBI single to center field. In the next half inning the Golden Eagles tied the game on a Moose Lemond single to center to score Trent Dosenbach.
 
The Senators tacked on a run in the fifth and another in the sixth and the Golden Eagles could not overcome the deficit, eventually falling to D&E 3-1 in game one of the series.
 
GAME 2
 
The Basics:
Location: Harpertown Field
Score: UC 6, D&E 4
Records: Charleston 15-19 (10-6 MEC), Daivs & Elkins 5-27 (4-12 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
Charleston got on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the top of the first and then plating three more runs in the second. Evan Ulrich, Casey Finck, and Collin Kemp (2) all collected RBI's for Charleston.
 
The Golden Eagles plated a single run in the third on a Ryan Comella RBI single and then another run in the fifth once again on a Ryan Comella RBI single.
 
Davis & Elkins attempted the come from behind, plating four runs in the sixth, but the Golden Eagles shut down the Senators in the seventh, taking the game two victory 6-4, a split series on the day.
 
GAME 3
 
The Basics:
Location: Harpertown Field
Score: UC 3, D&E 4
Records: Charleston 15-20 (10-7 MEC), Daivs & Elkins 6-27 (5-12 MEC)
 
How it Happened:
Charleston took the early lead, pulling ahead 2-0 in the first, Moose Lemond and Trent Dosenbach each collecting an RBI in the inning.
 
The Senators trailed until the third when they equaled the score at 2-2. Daivs & Elkins then plated the go ahead run in the fourth on a bases loaded single to score the runner from third. Charleston then tied the score at 3-3 in the sixth on a Damian Witty double to right field to plate Trent Dosenbach.
 
The Golden Eagles allowed the first two batters for Davis & Elkins to reach in the seventh, the fourth batter to step to the plate then singled to center field to score the go ahead run and walk it off for the Senators, Charleston falling 4-3.
 
GAME 4

The Basics:
Location:
Harpertown Field
Score: UC 7, D&E 2
Records: Charleston 16-20 (11-7 MEC), Daivs & Elkins 6-28 (5-13 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first three innings of game two were scoreless until Charleston broke the stalemate in the top of the fourth with a Trent Dosenbach solo homerun to right field. The lead did not last long as Davis & Elkins plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a wild pitch and then a double to go ahead 2-1 over Charleston.
 
In the top of the sixth, the Golden Eagles then tied the game back up at 2-2 after a Collin Kemp solo homerun to left field.
 
The Golden Eagles then scored five in the top of the seventh, Evan Ulrich , Collin Kemp (3), and Moose Lumond all picking up RBI's in the inning. Charleston would go on to win int 7-2 over Davis & Elkins, once again splitting the afternoon doubleheader.
 
Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will host West Virginia Wesleyan for a four game series Friday and Saturday at the Welch Athletic Complex.
