Partridge & Cooper Power Charleston Past D&E in Statement Win

CHARLESTON, WV – The University of Charleston lacrosse team closed out their home schedule in commanding fashion, overpowering Davis & Elkins 14-5 at the Welch Athletic Complex on Saturday.

The Basics:

  • Location: Welch Athletic Complex
  • Score: UC 14, D&E 5
  • Records: UC 11-5 (5-2 MEC), D&E 7-10 (2-5 MEC)

How it Happened:

Fresh off a win earlier in the week, the Golden Eagles wasted no time setting the tone. Just 55 seconds into the game, Alyse Weber and Willow Cooper found the back of the net to give UC a quick 2-0 lead. A potential third goal was wiped off the board due to a foul, but Madison Partridge picked up the momentum minutes later with her first score of the day.

D&E managed to sneak one past UC goalkeeper Megan Liston with just under seven minutes to go in the first, but Cooper responded with her second of the quarter off a free-position shot to keep UC in control.

Charleston's defense took over in the second quarter, holding the Senators scoreless and limiting them to just three shots. Meanwhile, the offense kept clicking, with Hayden Slinkard adding one and Cooper netting two more to complete her first-half hat trick—giving UC a 7-1 lead at the break.

Davis & Elkins came out stronger in the third quarter. Partridge opened the half with a goal just 20 seconds in, but despite 12 shots, that would be UC's only score of the period. The Senators capitalized, finding the net twice and narrowing the gap to 8-3.

Charleston quickly reasserted itself in the fourth. Two early goals pushed the lead to 10-3, effectively putting the game out of reach. Though D&E briefly responded, Cooper and Partridge added another goal each. After another D&E tally, Sylvi Jenner and Partridge sealed the deal with late scores to cap off the dominant 14-5 win.

Partridge and Cooper each racked up five goals, leading the charge in a performance that showcased Charleston's offensive firepower and defensive discipline.
