Charleston Returns to Winning Form

Charleston, Wv. – The University of Charleston lacrosse team secured a commanding 17-2 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan, bouncing back to reclaim their winning form.

The Basics:

  • Location: Welch Athletic Complex
  • Score: UC 17, WVW 2
  • Records: UC 8-4 (2-1 MEC), WVW 2-8 (0-3 MEC)

How it Happened:

After a few tough losses, UC came out with determination and a strong start. Goalkeeper Megan Liston was stellar, recording a shutout in the first half, while the Golden Eagles' offense exploded early. Willow Cooper opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Hayden Slinkard, who followed up with one of her own. Sylvi Jenner added two goals in the first quarter, leading UC to a 6-0 advantage.

The second quarter saw more of the same, with UC continuing their offensive onslaught. Another six goals brought the score to 12-0, capped off by Caitlyn Donovan's tally. On the defensive end, Liston stood tall, securing three saves and preserving the shutout at halftime.

After a brief lightning delay, UC came out firing on all cylinders despite the rain. Nine minutes into the third quarter, Jenner netted her third goal of the game, making it 15-0. The Bobcats responded shortly after with their first goal, but the Golden Eagles' defense remained impenetrable.

The final quarter saw both teams slow down, with each squad exchanging one goal. The game concluded with a 17-2 scoreline, a dominant win for UC.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles were relentless, forcing 25 turnovers and limiting WVW to just two goals. Offensively, UC was well-balanced, with six different players recording multiple goals.

This victory marks a strong return to form for the Golden Eagles, improving their record to 8-4, 2-1 in the MEC.
