Charleston, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles won their first game of the MEC Tournament as they defeated Fairmont State 9-3.

How it Happened:
Charleston opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to two singles. Charleston first got on the board when Carter Rust singled, scoring two runs.
Charleston added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Fairmont State committed an error, and Trent Dosenbach walked, each scoring one run.
Charleston scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to right field by Wilfredo Mendez.
Campbell Spradling earned the win for Charleston. The pitcher gave up four hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Micah Canterbury took the loss for Fairmont State. The starter went three innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking three. Trace Hartman and Tanner Evans each appeared in relief for Charleston.
Casey Finck and Wilfredo Mendez each collected two hits for Charleston. Finck went 2-for-5 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Rust stole four of Charleston's eight stolen bases in the game.
