How it Happened:
Charleston began the afternoon in an early hole, as Concord struck first on a 35-yard touchdown pass just three minutes into the game and later added a 30-yard field goal for a 10–0 lead after the opening quarter. The Mountain Lions extended their advantage midway through the second period with another scoring pass, this one from 25 yards out, to go ahead 17–0.
The Golden Eagles responded before halftime. Gryffin Mitstifer drilled a 47-yard field goal at the 6:15 mark of the second quarter, and moments later Justin McDuffie punched in a 4-yard touchdown run to bring UC within a score.
Charleston entered the break trailing 17–10, but with momentum beginning to swing. UC carried that energy into the third quarter. Quarterback Ean Hamric connected with Marquan Herron on a 4-yard touchdown to tie the game at 17. Minutes later, McDuffie broke loose for a 34-yard scoring run to give Charleston its first lead of the afternoon at 24–17. Concord quickly answered with a 72-yard touchdown strike late in the quarter, knotting the score again at 24–24.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Golden Eagles. Early in the frame, Hamric capped an eight-play, 57-yard drive by finding Yves Bosmans in the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Mitstifer's extra point pushed UC back in front, 31–24 and gave Charleston control of the game. From there, the Golden Eagles' defense stiffened, highlighted by a key end-zone interception by Montel Campbell to keep Concord off the board. UC then put the finishing touches on the victory with a methodical 14-play, 80-yard drive that chewed more than seven minutes off the clock. Hamric finished the march himself with a 1-yard quarterback keeper at the goal line, stretching the lead to 38–24 with just over a minute remaining. Charleston's defense closed the door from there, securing the comeback win.
Charleston's offense piled up 270 rushing yards on the afternoon, led by McDuffie's 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Hamric added 80 yards on the ground to go along with two passing scores. Mitstifer was perfect on the day, hitting all five extra points and connecting from long range on his 47-yard field goal in the first half.
