How it Happened
UC started the game emphatically with a slam dunk from big man Thomas Hailey. The Golden Eagles were monsters in the paint early this one having three dunks in a row. A Ben Nicol three put Charleston up big to start the game. Eli Robertson added three of his own making it a 17-7 game, just five minutes into the first half. The Bobcats came back with a couple of three of their own quickly bringing the game within two at 19-17. Charleston fired right back, going on an 8-0 run bringing them back to a double-digit lead. The Offense was shared around the entire team this half as the entire starting lineup had a bucket. High percentage shooting carried UC through this half as they shot over 50% from the field and nearly 45% from three. Ben Nicol Shined late in the quarter hitting a few threes that gave UC a comfortable lead. Mathew Shelton made a statement to end the half with a vicious dunk. Charleston went into the half time break up 44-32.
Mathew Shelton picked up right where he left off as he started the half of how he finished the last one with a Dunk! Charleston really picked up the offense this half going on a run that put them up twenty-one points. As hard as WVWC tried, they just couldn't give UC any issues. Mathew Shelton, Ben Nicol, and Thomas Hailey led Charleston as they put the game out of reach. Your Golden Eagles took off in the second half and never looked back, giving them the 89-72 win.
Mathew Shelton put on a high-flying display tonight scoring twenty-one points in the win. Big Man Thomas Hailey and Sharpshooter Ben Nicol each had 17 points of their own. Hailey was just one rebound shy of a double-double.
