How it Happened
Charleston took on the Davis&Elkins Senators on senior night. Braden Chapman got hot to start this one leading UC scorers throughout the first four minutes of the game, helping the Golden Eagles get out to an early lead. Thomas Hailey had two emphatic dunks early in this one to keep UC fired up. The first half was competitive as both teams traded buckets. Senior Ayinde Taylor II had a few buckets as well to keep UC in the lead. Charleston kept a steady lead throughout the first held as Ben Nicol and Hamilton Campbell put some work in as well offensively and defensively. Braden Chapman had a layup in the final second of the half, giving the Golden Eagles a 52-42 lead going into halftime.
Charleston started the Second half hot scoring the first three buckets of the half extending their lead to sixteen points. D&E came right back with a few points of their own. A lot of defense was played to begin the half, at some points the game was a stalemate full of stops. Eli Robertson broke the curse with a three pointer and was followed by a dunk by Thomas Hailey. Hailey, in his final home game, he went on a tear for this game. He was flying around the court and dunking the ball every chance he got. With Hailey leading the charge, UC could not be denied as Kaden Davis nailed a three pointer late in the half, putting Charleston up ten. The end of the game was Thomas Hailey show as he had the last four buckets for the Golden Eagles. The Senators fought but ultimately did not stand a chance, and UC got the win 85-75.
What a way for Thomas Hailey to end his college career with a 36-point game! Congratulations to the seniors for a great year!
