How it Happened
Fairmont State hopped out to an early 11-3 lead after a few three pointers went through the net in the first four minutes of the ball game. The Falcons stayed hot early, and before Charleston knew it, they were down 18-5 with some ground to make up. Junior guard Hamilton Campbell had eight points this half which rallied the Golden Eagles putting them right back in the game with about ten minutes left in the half. Ayinde Taylor II and Eli Robertson hit some big shots late in the first half to close the gap. However, Fairmont State scored at a steady pace throughout the first. After a slow start for UC, the half ended at almost a deadlock with the Falcons leading by just two points, with the score being 44-42.
With the second half underway, the Golden Eagles and the Falcons traded buckets as Junior Braden Chapman caught fire scoring nine consecutive points on three pointers. Chapman would go on to have a game-high of 22 points. UC took the lead with about twelve minutes to go on a Thomas Hailey dunk making the score 64-63. This was followed by a three pointer from Kaden Davis putting Charleston up by three. Fairmont state wouldn't lose the lead for long as the Falcons would put together some offense leaving UC behind. A big three pointer would Put FSU up seven, and they never looked back. Matthew Shelton and Braden Chapman had success throughout this half, but it wasn't enough. Fairmont State would pull away and win this contest 93-80.
Braeden Chapman had himself a game with 22 points and six rebounds, while Mathew Shelton had 12 points to his name, and Ayinde Taylor II added 10 of his own.
