Shepherdstown, W.Va.- Golden Eagles drop two at Saturday but split with the Shepherd Rams in weekend series.
Game 1
The Basics
Location: Fairfax Field
Score: UC 7, SU 9
Records: UC 1-12 (0-0 MEC), SU 10-3 (0-0 PSAC)
How it Happened
Sophomore Harry Lamont got the start for the Golden Eagles in this first game of the series. After Charleston couldn't do much in their half of the first. Shepherd was the team who struck first after a couple of extra base hits gave the Rams a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles fired back in the second as Andrew Kobryn Walked; John Stansbury doubled, and Ryan Comella grounded out but produced an RBI that tied the game up at one. Veteran Devin Fletcher took the mound in the second inning for UC. Shepherd found a couple of quick singles off Fletcher, putting themselves in scoring position. SU would do just that and a groundball RBI put the Rams up 2-1.
UC made this a back-and-forth game as Moose Lemond led off with a double down the line. Lemond then made it to third base on a passed ball. Trent Dosenbach singled once again to tie the game up. UC would leave two on base this inning as one is all they scored. In the bottom of the third, Fletcher struggled early. A couple of HBP's and a walk loaded the bases. A single and a double brought all these runs home, and now the Rams had a comfortable 5-2 lead.
UC kept fighting in the top of the fourth as back-to-back singles from Hunter Howell and Ryan Comella. Moose Lemond laid down a bunt for a base hit loading the bases. Dame Witty grounded out but not before a run came in, giving him the RBI. The score was 5-3 going into the the bottom of the fourth. Devin Fletcher bounced back this inning and quickly got three out.
Anything good that happened in the fifth inning was for Shepherd as they led off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot making the score 6-3. That was not all as another two runs would score on a double in the gap and that was it for Fletchers day. Fletcher was replaced by Ethan Bechtold, and after a couple of walks he got out of the inning with no further damage.
UC tried to make a comeback in the top of the sixth. Ryan Comella walked and Moose Lemond hit his Second homer of the season. Now the score was 8-5. Owen Mcmulkin was next to the mound. Despite a run scoring on a single, Mcmulkin had a successful inning, and Charleston had one more chance.
Trent dosenbach doubled to start off UC's final inning. He would score on an RBI Groundout by Hunter Howell. That would be all, and The Golden Eagles dropped game one 9-6.
Game 2
The Basics

Score: UC 5, SU 11
Records: UC 1-13 (0-0 MEC), SU 11-3 (0-0 PSAC)
How it Happened
UC got started quickly with a Damian Witty Single and John Stansbury walk. Trent Dosenbach singled to left scoring Witty. Devin Walsh opened the game for the Golden Eagles. A couple of walks led to a single which tied the game up at one.
Charleston didn't score in the top of the second. Landon ingram was next on the mound for the Golden Eagles. A walk and two singles gave Shepherd another run, and they were up 2-1 in the bottom of the second Ingram struck out the last two of the innings. Keeping the score where it was.
UC turned up the heat at the top of the third. Sophomore Zach Syvertson started off with a single and stole a base. Moose Lemond stayed hot and singled scoring Syvertson. Charleston wasn't done there, and Trent Dosenbach had another RBI single on the weekend. Andrew Kobryn then singled and an error at first base scored Dosenbach. UC had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the third. Landon Ingram started slow in the bottom of the third as he gave up a single and two walks, loading the bases. Ingram was clutched and worked out of this situation, forcing a lineout and two groundouts.
Logan bradish was Charleston's offense in the top of the fourth. He hit his first home run of the season deep to left field, making it a 5-2 ball game. Landon Ingram had a really good bottom of the fourth and kept the same score as Charleston went to the top of the fifth.
UC hit three straight groundballs in the top of the fifth. Shepherd took full momentum and stunned the Golden Eagles. With Ingram still in the game, the Rams drew a walk and then hit a two-run home run bringing the game within one. William "Bumby" Van Meter replaced Ingram after this. Shepeherd continued to add runs on as walks and base hits were the story of this inning. The game got quickly out of hand. To put the cherry on top of a nine-run inning, the Rams hit a three-run Bomb! All of a sudden, UC was down 11-5.
The inning took the wind out of the sails for UC as they would not score for the rest of the game. Grant Barclay pitched a good bottom of the sixth, a bright spot in the game. Charleston went on to lose 11-5.
Game 3
The Basics

Score: UC 7, SU 5
Records: UC 2-13(0-0 MEC), SU 11-4 (0-0 PSAC)
How it Happened
Moose Lemond continued his hot streak starting Charleston off with a hit. Other than that, UC did not score in the first inning. Simon Bargo was starting on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Bargo, the Senior, had some struggles in the first inning. A few walks and a Hit by pitch forced Bargo out of the game. A single brought two runs in, giving the Rams an early 2-0 lead. Breven Deckrosh entered the game after this. A wild pitch made the game 3-0, but Deckrosh worked out of the inning getting a strikeout.
The Second inning ended quickly as neither team scored.
Charleston finally got on the board with a Moose Lemond home run. It was his second of the series, and UC was only down 1-3. Deckrosh had a smooth third inning, and UC was back in business headed to the top of the fourth.
Trent Dosenbach hit a solo bomb to lead off the top of the fourth, and it was now a 1 run ball game. Hunter Howell beat the shift with a bunt single, however that was all for UC in that inning. Breven Deckrosh continued his dominance in the bottom of the fourth, and Charleston gained some momentum going into the last few innings of the game.
Zach Syvertson had a single to lead off the inning and proceeded to steal second base with zero outs on the board. Dame Witty grounded out but advanced Syvertson to third base, shortly after Andrew Kobryn singled to left field, scoring Syvertson. The game was now tied at three! Trent Dosenbach singled but that was all for UC in that inning. Breven Deckrosh started the bottom of the fifth with strikeouts, but the Rams went on a two-out rally. Back-to-Back doubles and a single gave SU a 5-3 lead. Deckrosh worked out of the inning, but Shepherd built a two-run lead.
Shepherd made a pitching change and made quick work for the Golden Eagles in the top of the sixth. J.P. Shultz came in to replace Deckrosh and had a good inning with a strikeout. Giving Charleston one more chance.
In the top of the seventh, Shepherd had their chance to win. The pitcher from the Rams walked three straight loading the bases. Ryan Comella came up with the bases juiced. Comella was clutch and hit a single up the middle leading to three RBIs. Charleston took a 6-5 lead. A throwing error was made and Comella advanced to second base. Collin "Cookie" Kemp singled to centerfield scoring Comella and now UC had a 7-5 lead. The inning turned over and Abe Fenwick came into the game and closed the game nicely; he turned a double play and forced another groundball and UC walked away with their second win of the season.
Game 4
The Basics

Score: UC 5, SU 11
Records: UC 2-14(0-0 MEC), SU 12-4 (0-0 PSAC)
How it Happened
Shepherd started the game with a hard throwing left on the bump. He had a good first inning, holding Charleston scoreless. Kyle "4K" Evenhus started on the mound of the eagles. Evenhus, the Freshman put good work in the first inning. But after a walk and a double. The Rams had a 1-0 lead.
Shepherds Lefty remained dominant as he had a clean second inning. Evenhus matched the clean with one of his own and after two innings shepherd only had a one run lead.
Max Layne Singled to start the third inning but after that Charleston didn't find offense. Kai Close was next to the mound after Evenhus. Outside of a couple of singles, the Rams did not score a run.
Charleston still did not score in the fourth, but Shepherd did. Back-to-Back singles from the Rams put pressure on the Golden Eagles. UC had an error and a run scored. Harry Lamont subbed in for Close but hit the first batter he faced bringing another run in. Lamont got out of the inning but not after damage was done. The Rams Led the Golden Eagles 3-0.
UC put a run on the board as John Stansbury walked. Stole, and reached third on an error. Max Layne had an RBI sac fly giving UC their first run of the game. Owen Mcmulkin subbed in for the bottom of the fifth. Shepherd got going and had a few hits of McMulkin. They had good at bats forcing walks and getting him out of the game. Ethan Bechtold came in with a 6-1 deficit against him with the bases loaded. A double scored all three runs. A single was hit right after bringing that runner home and all of a sudden, the game was out of hand. UC was down 10–1.
UC would not score the rest of the game, but SU would. Hudson Walls finished the last inning for the Golden Eagles and gave up a run but had an overall successful first outing for the Golden Eagles. UC lost the final game of the series 11-1.
