How It Happened
West Virginia Wesleyan controlled the opening draw, but from that point forward, it was all Charleston. Avery Butts forced the game's first turnover, setting the tone early. Just a minute later, Sylvi Jenner opened the scoring and quickly added a second goal shortly after. The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on. Following Wesleyan's first shot attempt, wide of the mark, Madison Partridge scored off an assist from Hayden Slinkard. Alyse Weber then added two quick goals as Charleston's offense surged. Goals from Emilee Franklin, Weber, Partridge, and two more from Jenner capped a 10-0 first quarter.
Charleston's offense cooled slightly in the second quarter, but the defense remained dominant. Megan Liston recorded her second save as both teams went scoreless for the first nine minutes. After a pair of green cards on Wesleyan, Charleston capitalized with back-to-back goals from Ella Creagh and Allie Drake to extend the lead to 12-0 at halftime. Liston preserved the shutout through two quarters.
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the second half, adding three goals in the opening minutes, one from Mahlina McFadden and two more from Franklin. McFadden later converted a man-up opportunity, and Creagh added her second of the game. Jenner continued her standout performance, and Darby Stolz scored on a rebound to make it 19-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
With the result well in hand, Charleston remained focused on securing the shutout. Ella Russano and Jessica Best added the final two goals, sealing the 21-0 victory.
Jenner led the offense with five goals and one assist.
