How It Happened
As she so often does, Madelyn Hillman opened the game by securing the first draw control. Both teams came out aggressive, but strong defensive play kept the game scoreless through the first four minutes. Wheeling struck first with two early goals, but Charleston quickly responded. Darby Stolz put the Golden Eagles on the board with 6:56 remaining in the opening quarter. The final minutes of the period were marked by turnovers on both sides, and Wheeling held a narrow 2–1 lead after one.
Charleston found its rhythm in the second quarter after a slow start that saw Wheeling extend its lead. Stolz netted her second goal of the game to spark the offense, followed by Alyse Weber converting a man-up free position opportunity to even the score. Although Wheeling briefly regained momentum with another goal, Madison Partridge answered immediately off an assist from Sylvi Jenner. Stolz added a late free position goal with under three minutes remaining, giving Charleston a 5–4 advantage heading into halftime.
The Golden Eagles took full control in the second half. Partridge opened the scoring before Wheeling answered, but from that point forward, it was all Charleston. The Golden Eagles erupted for five goals in a three-minute span, two each from Partridge and Stolz, along with one from Mahlina McFadden, to break the game open. Wheeling managed one more goal in the quarter, but Charleston continued to pour it on, adding scores from Allie Drake and Stolz to take a commanding 13–6 lead into the fourth.
Charleston's dominance continued in the final frame, holding Wheeling scoreless while adding three more goals. Stolz tallied her seventh of the game with 7:46 remaining, followed by goals from Weber and Caitlyn Donovan to seal the 16–6 win.
