How It Happened
Madelyn Hillman set the tone early, securing the opening draw control, one of her 10 on the day. Less than 10 seconds into the game, Frostburg was issued a green card, and freshman Jayden Ballance capitalized with a man-up goal on a free-position shot to give Charleston an early lead. Madison Partridge added to the advantage two minutes later before Frostburg responded with its first goal. Ballance struck again to extend the lead, and after another Bobcats score, Alyse Weber and Ballance, who completed a first-quarter hat trick, pushed Charleston ahead 6-2. Frostburg managed a late goal to close the opening quarter.
Charleston carried that momentum into the second quarter, with Partridge and Ballance each scoring within the first three minutes to make it 8-2. However, Frostburg seized control for the remainder of the half, holding Charleston scoreless while netting four unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 8-6 at halftime.
Out of the break, Charleston regained its rhythm. Weber scored back-to-back goals, and the Golden Eagles held Frostburg scoreless for the first 11 minutes of the third quarter. The Bobcats responded with two late goals, but Partridge converted another man-up opportunity following a Frostburg green card, giving Charleston an 11-8 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Golden Eagles wasted no time in the fourth, as Ballance and Darby Stolz each found the net within the first two minutes to extend the lead to 13-8. Frostburg fought back with three straight goals to make it a two-score game, but Sylvi Jenner answered with a man-up goal after another Bobcats penalty to make it 14-11. Frostburg added a late goal, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Charleston secured the 14-12 victory, snapping Frostburg State's unbeaten conference run. Ballance led all scorers with five goals in a standout performance.
