Charleston Wraps Up Competition at Seton Hill Classic

Greensburg, PA - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles finished the Seton Hill Classic with two hard-fought matches against Seton Hill and East Stroudsburg. 

The Basics:

Game 1 Score: Seton Hill 3, Charleston 1
Game 2 Score: East Stroudsburg 3, Charleston 1
 

Game 1:

The Griffins of Seton Hill came out strong in the first set against UC. After some back-and-forth scoring, SHU went on a couple of multi-point runs to take the first set by a score of 25-11. In set two, Charleston responded with a strong effort. The two teams stayed pretty even, with the greatest margin of separation in the set being 4 points. The score was tied at 26-26 before the Griffins claimed the last two and the set. Charleston would not go down without a fight came out swinging in set three. UC pulled ahead towards the middle of the set and went on a 6-1 run to end the set with a score of 25-19, forcing set four. SHU pulled ahead early in the final set, taking an 11-4 lead. Though Charleston battled back, they could not overcome the deficit and ultimately fell 25-21. 

Jasmine Broberg led the Golden Eagles offense with 8 kills. Kate Strong added 7 kills as well as 5 blocks. London Upchurch had 18 and Sahana Rajesh provided 17 digs.

Game 2:

Both squads hit the ground running in the first set. UC went on a 7-0 run, but ESU quickly countered with a 5-0 run and then 7 unanswered points to take the set 25-19. Set two was another tale of large point swings. Charleston went on a 7-0 run, forcing a timeout from East Stroudsburg. However, the Warriors came right back and finished the set on a 9-1 run. UC battled their way through the third set, pulling ahead late and taking the set after back-to-back service aces from Patrycja Majos. In set four, both teams traded points, with the score being at an even draw seven times within the set. ESU would finish on a 5-0 run to take the set and win the match. 

Divine Muo led the offense with 10 kills with Jasmine Broberg and Patrycja Majos each providing 8. London Upchurch assisted on 24 points for the Golden Eagles, while Sahana Rajesh led the team with 13 digs.

The Golden Eagles will return to Charleston for a weeknight matchup against Kentucky State University on Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm.
