Golden Eagles Pick Up Third WVIAC Win

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
- The dynamic duo of back-to-back WVIAC Player's of the Year Dion Peters and Rob Vincent teamed up to lift the University of Charleston men's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory against Seton Hill, Saturday evening.

UC (3-3, 3-1) outshot SHU in the opening half 10-4 with three prime scoring chances for the Golden Eagles being deflected by the cross-bar to keep the scoreboard blank headed into break. The second half saw more of the same with Charleston dominating possession and outshooting the visitors 11-1, yet again with multiple shots finding the post or cross-bar on great strikes by the UC offense.

Seton Hill (2-6, 2-1) showed an aggressive attack with the opening possession of overtime as Dilveer Chagger placed a great shot from midfield that forced a jumping save by UC keeper Sean Teepen. The hope was short lived as Charleston again got into the offensive form they had shown all evening to retake possession and control tempo.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of forcing the ball deep into the Griffin zone as Dion Peters fired a ball off SHU goalkeeper Jon DeLuca. DeLuca made the initial save as the ball bounced back to Peters who slipped it in front of the net to a wide open Rob Vincent who hammered the ball into the back of the net.

"We kept it positive today. We've battered teams all season, but every chance we missed, we'd put more and more pressure on ourselves. We said today that every miss, we'd say to ourselves, 'we'll get the next one', and eventually we got the next one and won the match." stated head coach Chris Grassie

"It was a really positive performance today, and I think this team is now showing just how good we can be, and I'd fancy us against any team in the country playing soccer like that."

For the evening, UC outshot Seton Hill 23-7.

Charleston gets back on the field on Monday, Sept. 25 for a home date against non-conference opponent University of the District of Columbia at 2:00 pm.
