CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Following this past Saturday's win over Shepherd, University of Charleston men's soccer coach Chris Grassie became the all-time wins leader in Golden Eagle soccer history with 68 wins surpassing Tom Nozica.
In Coach Grassie's five seasons at the helm of Charleston men's soccer the Golden Eagles have compiled 68 wins compared to 15 losses and six draws, a .764 winning percentage. Three times Grassie has been named Coach of the Year, twice in the WVIAC and once in the Mountain East Conference. He was also named the MEC Men's Sports Coach of the Year for the 2014-15 season after leading Charleston to a no. 1 national ranking, a first in UC Athletics history, and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. Last season's Golden Eagles compiled a 22-1-1 record producing the most wins among all NCAA schools in men's soccer.
UC has won three regular season titles and swept all four conference tournament championships under the direction of Grassie. His players have been very successful on the pitch, coaching seven All-Americans and five conference Players of the Year over four plus season. His teams also excel in the classroom, earning NSCAA Team Academic Awards and last season Conor Branson was named MEC Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year and was awarded the Elite 89 Award at last year's national finals.
