CHARLESTON, W.Va. - University of Charleston football punter Brett Benes was named to the 2015 AFCA Division II Coaches' All-America Team becoming the first representative in Golden Eagle football history to take away AFCA All-America honors.
Benes had a remarkable season for Charleston as he handled all areas of kicking for UC, punting, place kicking, and kickoff duties. He made his biggest impact in the punting game leading the Golden Eagles to a 39.16 net punting average which put UC second in that category among all NCAA Division II schools. Individually he was third in the nation in punting average with 43.7 yards each punt during the 2015 season. He set a school record with a 71-yard bomb from his right leg and twice had punts that eclipsed 70 yards during the historic 2015 season, as the Golden Eagles made their first NCAA Division II Football postseason appearance.
