UC Names 2017 Golden Eagle Athletics Hall of Fame Class

Induction Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 6th

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced the 2017 Golden Eagle Athletics Hall of Fame class on Monday afternoon, welcoming Mike Curry (Men's Basketball). Ellis "Butch" Glover (Baseball), Nicole LaFollette (Women's Volleyball), and Candace Swann (Women's T&F) to the prestigious list of student-athletes, coaches and meritorious members already in the Golden Eagle Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition to the Hall of Fame Ceremony, University of Charleston Athletics will be recognizing Coach Rick Meckfessel and members of the 1966-67 men's basketball team that advanced to the NAIA Final Four, celebrating their 50 year anniversary.  University of Charleston will also be retiring the #34 jersey of Henry Dickerson in a formal ceremony prior to the Hall of Fame induction.  Dickerson becomes just the fifth Golden Eagle to have their jersey retired in University of Charleston/Morris Harvey history.

A formal induction ceremony, as part of 2017 University of Charleston Homecoming, will take place on the evening of Friday, October 6th on the campus of University of Charleston.  Tickets to the event are still available and can be purchased by calling University of Charleston Athletics at 304-357-4820.  Your ticket will include entry into the Hall of Fame induction ceremony along with dinner.

MIKE CURRY

 
Curry, a 1968 graduate of Morris Harvey, finished his 4-year career scoring over 1,000 points for the Maroon & Gold.  He was a key member of MHC teams that won a pair of WVIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship, along with advancing to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16 in 1966 and the Final Four in 1967.

ELLIS "BUTCH" GLOVER

 
Glover, a 1974 graduate of Morris Harvey, was a two-time All-WVIAC performer in baseball as a pitcher for the Golden Eagles.  On the mound, Glover posted a career record of 22 wins and 9 losses while tossing two no-hitters in his 4-year career and throwing 25 complete games.

NICOLE LAFOLLETTE

 
LaFollette, a 2002 University of Charleston graduate, left UC as a 4-time All-WVIAC performer in women's volleyball.  Her teams advanced to two NCAA tournaments, making the 1998 NCAA Sweet Sixteen.  She also was a 3-time All-WVIAC Tournament award recipient while being named WVIAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year as a senior in 2001.

CANDACE SWANN

 
Swann, a 2006 graduate of University of Charleston, finished her career as one of the most decorated athletes in Golden Eagle history excelling as a field athlete for UC Women's Track & Field.  She became Charleston's first Track & Field All-American, being named twice to the NCAA All-American team in her 4-year career.  She captured multiple WVIAC titles while representing UC, winning in the discus and hammer throws and was named the East Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year as a senior.
