About the Opposition

After a scoreless draw through 110 minutes, Notre Dame advanced to the MEC Tournament final in penalty kicks over West Virginia Wesleyan.

Notre Dame managed four corner kicks and put two shots on frame in the first half but could not break through against the Bobcats. West Virginia Wesleyan got its offense going in the second half recording seven shots and putting two on frame but did not find the back of the net. Each team traded quality opportunities in the overtime sessions, but ultimately the game went to penalties.

The shootout began with a miss by WVWC, and Notre Dame followed with a make. The two teams traded make, and then WVWC drew even on a miss on NDC's third attempt. Each team made its next two attempts to be tied at 4-4 after five rounds. In the sixth, NDC keeper Daniele De Angelis made the save to set Notre Dame up for the win. David Torralba converted his attempt for the Falcons to send them on to the finals.

De Angelis finished with three saves in the game, while West Virginia Wesleyan's keeper Jeremy Collins made nine saves in the game.

During the regular season, Charleston edged the Falcons 3-0 on their home turf while in their second meeting, the Falcons handed the Golden Eagles their only tie of the regular season with a 1-1 draw after 2 OT.
