KINGSVILLE, Texas -- University of Charleston's Jack Mastandrea qualified for the 2019 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championship in a pair of events, 10,000m and 5,000m, set to be ran at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M Kingsville from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25.
Mastandrea enters the 10k with the 8th fastest time in all of NCAA Division Ii with a qualifying time of 29:36.85 but is just 10 seconds off the 2nd fastest time of the season from CSU-Pueblo's Marcelo Laguera. The junior from Mooresville, N.C. is looking to become UC's first men's track & field All-American by finishing top-8 in the event. The men's 10,000m run is going to be ran at 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 23.
Following a day off, Mastandrea will take to the track once again in the 5,000 meter run on Saturday evening. Mastandrea enters the 21-man field with the 19th fastest time in NCAA DII at 14:16.38. He will compete for the 5k title at 9:30 p.m. before returning to Charleston on Sunday afternoon.
Mastandrea is the first Golden Eagle to qualify for the NCAA DII Men's Track & Field Championships.
