Golden Eagles Open Outdoor Season at Charlotte and Eastern Kentucky

CHARLOTTE, N.C. / RICHMOND, Ky. — The University of Charleston track and field teams opened the outdoor season on March 20–21, splitting squads between the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational. The Golden Eagles delivered multiple top finishes, personal bests, and a school record performance to begin the outdoor campaign.

49er Classic (Charlotte, N.C.)

Charleston's distance group highlighted the weekend with strong finishes and personal best efforts across multiple events.

1500 Meters (Women)
Amanda Ferrente led the Golden Eagles with a time of 4:44.1 to place 23rd.

1500 Meters (Men)
Hugo Hewitt placed sixth in 3:51.00, followed closely by Jules Geoffroy-Romand in seventh with a time of 3:52.62.

5000 Meters (Men)
Colin Brooks placed third in 14:52.51, while Thomas Crockett finished fourth in 14:55.00.

800 Meters (Women)
Abby Bolton ran a personal best of 2:17.26 to place 12th, followed by Amanda Ferrente in 13th with a personal best of 2:17.35.

800 Meters (Men)
Matthew O'Shea placed 12th in 1:54.80. Jack Talbot (1:55.54) and Josh Messina (1:55.62) followed.

Decathlon (Men)
Luke Davis placed fourth with 5804 points, recording personal bests in multiple events.

Heptathlon (Women)
Laura Delgado de Torres set a school record with 4498 points to place sixth.

Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational (Richmond, Ky.)

Charleston's sprint and field groups turned in a dominant showing with multiple event wins and top finishes.

4x100 Meter Relay (Men)
The Charleston A team of Zachary Parsons, Eric Kruder, Brady Pryor, and Massimo Pantano won in 41.46. Charleston's B team placed fourth.

110 Meter Hurdles (Men)
Massimo Pantano won in 15.05, followed by Frank Hicks in second at 15.18.

100 Meter Hurdles (Women)
Minke Engelbrecht placed third in 15.23, while Peyton Krafchek finished fifth in 16.77.

100 Meters (Men)
Alejandro Delgado placed third in 10.80. Brady Pryor (10.86), Massimo Pantano (10.87), Eric Kruder (10.92), Miller McElrea (10.97), and Julian Grace (11.01) followed, with five Golden Eagles running under 11 seconds.

100 Meters (Women)
Colette Patti won in 11.72.

400 Meter Hurdles (Men)
Freshmen Cosmo Johnson (53.37) and Frank Hicks (56.10) placed first and second.

200 Meters (Men)
Miller McElrea placed fourth in 22.4.

High Jump (Women)
Freshman Adrianne Truman won with a mark of 1.55 meters.

Shot Put (Men)
Aidan Corbett placed second with 15.31 meters. Julian Matthews (14.36m) and Jack Ingram (14.34m) placed fourth and fifth.

Shot Put (Women)
Abby McKinney placed third with a mark of 12.37 meters.

Discus (Men)
Julian Matthews placed third with 46.36 meters.

Discus (Women)
Magdalene Furst won with a mark of 42.46 meters.

Hammer Throw (Men)
Julian Matthews won with 55.28 meters. Luke Messinger placed third (51.49m), while Jack Ingram and Brian Valiente placed seventh and eighth.

Hammer Throw (Women)
Mia Huber won with 51.83 meters. Ella Nilsson placed third (48.19m) and Claire Ingram placed fourth (46.42m).

Javelin (Men)
Bryant Welch placed second with 50.65 meters.

Javelin (Women)
Tesscani Moore won with 41.22 meters.
