Mount Olive, N.C. — The University of Charleston track and field team sent a small group of athletes to compete at the 9th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge on March 27–28, hosted by the University of Mount Olive. With competition focused primarily in the field events, the Golden Eagles made the most of their opportunities, highlighted by multiple event wins and a school record performance.
Friday
Charleston opened the meet in the hammer throw on both the men's and women's sides.
On the men's side, Jullian Matthews delivered a standout performance, placing third with a mark of 59.59 meters to break the school record. Luke Messinger followed with a sixth-place finish at 55.39 meters, while Jack Ingram added a throw of 51.42 meters.
In the women's hammer, Mia Huber led the way with a first-place finish, throwing 54.32 meters to record an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Ella Nilsson placed sixth with a mark of 47.76 meters, while Claire Ingram finished 11th at 44.93 meters. Magdalene Furst also competed, recording a mark of 34.33 meters.
Saturday
Charleston continued competition on Saturday with strong performances across the throwing events.
In the men's shot put, Aiden Corbett placed second with a mark of 16.41 meters, while Jack Ingram followed at 14.54 meters.
Bryant Welch added an event win in the men's javelin, taking first place with a throw of 51.48 meters.
On the women's side, Magdalene Furst led Charleston in the discus with a fourth-place finish at 38.72 meters. Mia Huber placed sixth with a mark of 37.15 meters, and Claire Ingram finished tenth at 35.01 meters.
Freshman Tesscani Moore capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the women's javelin, throwing 37.23 meters.
Charleston's limited group delivered a strong showing, led by two event wins, a school record, and an NCAA provisional mark.
