BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston has won the 2018-19 Mountain East Conference Commissioner's Cup recognizing overall athletic excellence among its membership on an annual basis. It marks the fourth Commissioner's Cup for the University of Charleston since the league began in 2013-14.
The standings are compiled utilizing an "all-sports rating." This rating is determined by a formula that awards points to a school for its regular season finish equal to the number of teams per sport sponsored by the MEC, and then divided by the number of sports offered by the institution. The final rating is a percentage of points acquired against the number of points available
(average percentile finish in the standings of each sport sponsored by an institution).
Charleston finished atop the standings with an All-Sports rating of 0.87195. The Golden Eagles won conference championships in men's and women's golf, men's cross country, men's soccer, baseball and men's track.
Notre Dame finished second, followed by Fairmont State, West Liberty, Concord and Shepherd to round out the top half of the standings.
Ten of the 12 schools in the league won a regular season or tournament championship in 2018-19.
